The Maria River Wildlife Project has been operating for four years in an attempt to achieve conservation management outcomes for landholders.
The project area covers 22,000Ha of highly diverse and significant habitats with an array of highly significant flora and fauna on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
The project area is bounded in the north by the town of Crescent Head, the south by Port Macquarie, includes Limeburners Creek Nature Reserve / Wilderness, Goolawah State Park, other crown portions and freehold lands.
The successful integration of private landholders and community organizations with land management agencies, local government and other interested parties has seen impressive environmental gains in a very short period of time.
The Maria Project Team that manages and supports the projects within the study area include:
- Saltair Flora and Fauna
- NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS)
- NSW Department of Lands
- NSW Department of Primary Industries
- Landcare
- Port Macquarie and Hastings Council
- Private landholders within the project area
The development of this web site and a project DVD add greatly to the project's profile and education aims.
